U.S. Journalists Praise President
U.S. journalist delegation visited President Susilo Yudhoyono at his office. They discuss various key issues, especially related to development and economic development, terrorism, and environment.
A delegation comprising 18 television and print journalists from the United States visit of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, on Thursday afternoon. The delegation was led by journalist John Schidlovsky, director of International Reporting Project, based in Washington, DC.
On that occasion the discussion, the President, among others, accompanied by Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Djoko Suyanto, Finance Minister Agustin Martowardoyo, and the Minister of Forestry Zulkifli Hasan.
In the introductory discussion, the President said in the last two periods have continued transition to more democratic governance, with all its shortcomings and advantages. "I understand that people want improvement and the government continues work to make that happen," said President Yudhoyono.
But on the other hand, Yudhoyono said, there are many challenges facing the Indonesian nation in the midst of a complex transition, and takes time to complete. He mentioned the rapid global economic issues intersect with the economic situation in the country, such as food and energy crisis.
But, who is considered quite difficult for a president is how to balance the freedoms that exist in society, the rule of law and tolerance amongst. Freedom is too large, according to the president, can lead to bad politics.
The President hoped the visit of journalists can help enhance a better understanding of Indonesia, in the eyes of citizens of the United States.
To the VOA, John Schidlovsky confessed discussion that afternoon walking with a very warm and memorable. President Yudhoyono is considered to be very open in answering all questions.
Former correspondent of The Baltimore Sun is further said, one important issue in question is about the environment, especially a moratorium on deforestation and its relation with the production of palm oil.
"Many things we discussed, for example, a moratorium (temporary moratorium) for forest and peat recently signed President (President issued Presidential Instruction about a moratorium on forest and peat), because we had to Borneo to see how the Indonesian government to maintain the environment," said John Schidlovsky. Another issue that also could be asked is about the radicalism and corruption.

Deforestation Indonesia Moratorium Implementation Costs
The ban burning of forests that are part of a deal worth a billion dollars by Norway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Two-year moratorium on forest burning in Indonesia, which was supposed to start early this year, still pending. The ban was part of a billion-dollar deal with Norway to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that are considered most scientists as the main cause of global warming.
Indonesia is a contributor to greenhouse gas emissions in the world's third largest. Deforestation - largely due to burning of forests for palm oil used as agriculture and mining, which currently occurs at the level of 100 million hectares per year - causes 50 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the country.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has pledged to reduce carbon dioxide emissions 26 percent by 2020. Two-year moratorium on opening new land, which was supposed to start in January, is an important part of the environment initiative of Indonesia and part of the deal worth a billion dollars by Norway to protect forests and reduce emissions.
But the ban had been suspended and the task force responsible for developing a moratorium that is trying to find a way to benefit the environment without harming the economy.
Nur Masripatin is director of the Center for Standardization and the Environment at the Ministry of Forestry. He said the cessation of development in all rural areas in Indonesia, are not economically profitable. He said, "If your country, 70 percent is forest land and the population continues to grow, whether realistic that in the future, 30 years in the future, you expect your forest is still as much as 70 percent?".
The task force is being elaborate definition that he said would help illustrate what areas will be affected by the ban.
Green Peace campaign speaker, Yuyun Idradi, skeptical that the moratorium that, if finally enacted, will have environmental impacts. He said the ban will only cover the new land permits, not existing ones, and that most of the area covered has been designated as protected forest. He said the whole process was delayed because of lobbying firms. "The negotiations are terminated and no information at all until now and we do not know how the new design and when it will be signed." Said Idradi
Robert Daniel of Climate Change Unit at the British Embassy in Jakarta said that if the ban was enacted, it would not reduce greenhouse gas emissions are significantly shorter term. He said, "What are you talking about is climate change. Very little forest will be protected from the moratorium. But that's not the point. As we said earlier, this is a process. This is a step to reduce deforestation."
He said the process involves the businesses to see the economic benefits of sustainable development practices that. Daniel said the replanting of trees in logging areas, increasing the productivity of existing oil palm plantations to meet growing demand and development of geothermal energy, will bring economic benefits and reduce emissions in the long term.
Masripatin from the Ministry of Forestry also see the moratorium as part of a long-term process to manage its natural resources. He further said, "We will not see the direct impact of this moratorium. It's important for us to take the time to review how we manage our forest resources in the past and what will be needed in the future."
He said better to delay the implementation of the moratorium in order to develop an effective plan than to make decisions that will harm the economy and canceled in court.

Month June July and August are the months when Hollywood released a movie blockbuster films aimed at a large cost to attract the attention of the world audience. But this year in Indonesia's ongoing tax dispute between the government and the importer of the film will stop the entry of new films. The cinema owners said this destroy their profits.

Nearly four months after the Motion Picture Association of America to stop sending the films to Indonesia in protest new tax liabilities Indonesian citizens say they are frustrated and disappointed not to have access to watch the latest blockbuster movies.

In January the Government of Indonesia announced it would begin enforcing long-ignored rules that require advance payment of royalties imported films in addition to the excise tax that has been burdening importers of 0.43 cents per meter celluloid.
The Motion Picture Association, which represents major studios such as Paramount and Universal Walt Disney said royalty tax is unfair because it gives value to the film before obtaining any revenue.
Meanwhile, the Indonesian Tax Directorate General has charged three major film distributors of 3.5 million dollars to the tax value of the films that have played the last two years. Directorate General of Taxation has suspended import licenses their film until this problem solved.
One importer of films recently made payments but the other two are still at war with the Indonesian government in tax court. They are part of the Group-21 is dominant and controls more than 80% of 620 theaters in Indonesia / and importers of other Hollywood films.
The Indonesian government said efforts to impose a royalty tax aims to encourage local film industry but a leader of the cinema sure this is a reaction because the importer did not meet their tax obligations.
Revenue movies box-office Indonesia vary between 90 to 150 million dollars, slightly lower than Singapore but the two times that of Thailand. With a population of around 240 million inhabitants and the increasing number of middle class so much room for growth - said Ananda Siregar - Blitz Megaplex owner /'s second largest cinema chain in Indonesia. He further said, "The irony with the situation going on that most will take advantage of the hijackers was a movie or Singapore as most citizens of Indonesia who are able to go to Singapore to fly there and watch a" Kung Fu Panda "there than in their own country is one thing very sad. "
The Indonesian government says it is trying to solve the problem of royalty but Ananda Siregar concerned when the issue was over imported films will not flow back into Indonesia until the distributors pay their taxes earlier.
Since the boycott of the film began, Blitz Megaplex has shortened the operating hours and closing some theaters in turn. Head of the Indonesian Film Industry said the cinemas reported revenues decreased 60% and independent cinemas are now at risk of closing for good.
Some movie fans say they understand the background behind these boycotts. They say the distributors should pay taxes royalties. While waiting in line outside Jakarta Cineplex, Arie Jony says lost revenue would only threaten the movie industry. He said, "It is very disappointing for me. Plus this will encourage more people to buy pirated videos. they will be forced to download more movies from the internet and other sources. So in my view no one benefited from this ban. "
Although many of the latest pirated DVDs of Hollywood films more widely available many Indonesian citizens say they miss watching movies in cinemas. Jony said he has stopped watching films in theaters because of the limited film available. Amanda Woworuntu who is also a movie buff said he was also disappointed with the low bid of foreign films that exist. "We recognize the quality of Indonesian films are very bad so I never watch Indonesian movies in theaters," said Woworuntu.

More than 100 Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in South Waziristan, Pakistan, triggering a gunbattle that killed eight soldiers.
The attack happened Thursday morning in Marabi area near the border with Afghanistan. Authorities say Pakistani troops have killed at least 10 members of the Taliban. At least seven soldiers also were wounded in the crossfire.
Meanwhile, Pakistan's military commander said Thursday that the fund billions of dollars sent by the United States to fund the war against militant better used to help the citizens of Pakistan.
Gen. Ashfaq Parvaz Kayani said in a meeting with top military commanders that American military aid must be "transferred on economic assistance to Pakistan that could be used to reduce the burden on ordinary people."
Kayani said that only 1.4 billion dollars in U.S. aid received by Pakistan during the last 10 years - which he said amounted to 8.6 billion dollars - has been given to the Pakistan army. He said "a relatively small number" had been given to the naval and air forces of Pakistan, while the remainder - about six billion dollars to the Pakistani government.

Should the Government affirmed and Prohibition Rules for Forest Management Company
Environmentalists urge more restrictions and oversight of the company's mining and oil palm harvesting if Indonesia is to achieve its goal to reduce CO-2 emissions by 26 percent at the latest by 2020
Environmental groups said the ban for two years to develop 45 million hectares of new forest designation does not prevent logging companies to cut down trees for wood products and paper logs and did not stop the developers burn and convert large forest land into oil palm plantations .
It also does not change the strategy of Greenpeace to confront companies like Asia Pulp & Paper - one of the largest producers of wood products in the world of what is said to perform illegal practices damage the environment.
Greenpeace in the past has managed to convince foreign companies such as Burger King Nestle to stop business with Asia Pulp & Paper. Greenpeace campaigners today called on Indonesia Bustar Maitar toy company Mattel and Hasbro to do the same. Maitar said, "They are using packaging paper packaging manufactured by Asia Pulp & Paper. We know that Asia Pulp & Paper destroying the forests in Sumatra. So we urge Mattel to ask companies to stop supporting this use of forest resources for their products. "
Asia Pulp & Paper rejected the request VOA interview. But the company issued a statement rejected accusations by Greenpeace said it followed legal guidelines for using 95 percent recycled paper in packaging and strive to accomplish 100% sustainable plantation at the latest by 2015.
Lou Verchot - a climate change scientist from the Center for International Forestry Research said the deal with businesses that might exploit the environment will not stop the development of forest land. He said the moratorium itself has little impact alone. Some companies have achieved greater concessions before the ban was imposed, and other parties to operate due to very little supervision and implementation in rural areas. He said, "The forests tend to exist in rural Indonesia. Access is not easy. The Indonesian government can not enter to get there. The problem is the implementation of the law. The implementation procedure is also a problem area. "
The moratorium is part of the agreement of Indonesia and Norway amounted to 1 billion dollars to reduce carbon dioxide emissions which are mainly derived from burning forests and peatlands for agriculture and other development of Indonesia is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases that many scientists think contributes to global warming.
Verchot said the deal worth 1 billion dollars from Norway is nothing compared to that obtained Indonesia 20 billion each year from forest products trade with the United States alone.
Although the moratorium has a number of limitations Verchot said President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono's decision to initiate a ban is an essential step to developing environmentally friendly business practices are sustainable.
"If you ask me whether I support, of course I support I think is a courage of a president to declare this case I think it accelerates the discussion that must be done in Indonesian society. So this is positive. At the same time this issue had not yet ended. The game had not yet won. There are still many things to do, "so, says Verchot.
Verchot added to provide incentives to developers to improve the productivity of existing plantations and replant the trees should be in line with increased conservation and implementation practices.

Over these allegations, the Commission II of DPR plans to summon Bawaslu and KPU. If you do not get satisfactory answers, it is possible they will form the Panja.
"What was reported to the Police Chief Court ought not to enter the political arena or defamatory to the concerned should be followed up immediately," said Pramod.
This was conveyed Pramono Anung told AFP on Thursday (09/06/2011).
According to Pramod, what is called the Vice Chairman of Commission II of DPR Ganjar related Pranowo the chair undue or seat occupied by House members 'haram' should be disclosed. This is important because it concerns the validity of the Parliament seats.
"It is clear report of the Constitutional Court. If there are violations of the law further processing. So we do not suppose," he said.
The story begins after the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Mahfud MD admitted he never reported the falsification of the Constitutional Court by a KPU member Andi Nurpati to the police. Falsification of documents related to the results of legislative elections in 2009 which paved the way a candidate member of the legislature to Senayan whether they actually lost the election. Since found out, it finally canceled.
Well, calibaration have calibaration, in addition to the findings Mahfud, the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) also found the same thing. "Long before Andi Nurpati case arises, we also found two letters that we

Satelit Palapa A1 (1976)
